CATS FACILITY OFFERS HANDS-ON FIREFIGHTER TRAINING PROGRAMS
Central Alabama Training Solutions’ firefighter training roots stem back to the company’s start in 2004 when founders Keith Sharp and Dennis Weverink, former firefighters with Tuscaloosa and Montgomery’s departments, respectively, launched CATS’ first firefighter training programs. Since then, the company has grown to include 10 certified instructors and one of central Alabama’s premier firefighting facilities, complete with a burn building for live fire evolutions, underground vessels for confined space courses, gas simulators for propane emergency training and a three-story tower for rope rescue training.
An essential component of firefighter training, this Live Fire Training Course provides hands-on instruction in a controlled environment at the CATS facility, featuring a Connex box burn building. Drills are tailored to department needs but address fire behavior, situational stress, nozzle operation and victim care.
Well-trained first responders serve as a vital link to the healthcare team. This curriculum includes Basic Life Support training that enables individuals to provide emergency medical care with a limited amount of equipment while on scene. Upon course competition, students obtain CPR/AED same-day certification.

This xx-hour course prepares responders for safety rig rescues from low-, steep- and vertical-angle environments, providing instruction on equipment, including ropes, knots, webbing and hardware before progressing into anchors and raising and lowering devices. The majority of the class is spent on practical application, including patient packaging and rappelling skills.
Situated on an 8-acre drill field with a 9,200-sq.-ft. training facility, underground vessels for confined space course, gas simulators for propane emergency training and a three-story tower for rope rescue training, Central Alabama Training Solutions is one of Alabama’s top OSHA training centers. Specializing in OSHA hazmat training, as well as confined space training, CATS offers a variety of employee certification courses.
CATS’ First Aid, CPR and AED certification programs meet OSHA workplace certification requirements. The xx-hour curriculum includes skills that enable your employees to provide emergency medical care to others using limited equipment, including the operation of an automated external defibrillator.

This xx-hour course gives students the knowledge, skills and materials needed to safely operate confined space rescue equipment as a Confined Space Entrant and/or Attendant. Air monitors, ventilation equipment, retrieval devices and fall protection equipment are used in tandem with CATS confined space training grounds to create a one-of-a-kind hands-on course.
Did you know OSHA requires a rescue standby team be made available for every permit-required confined space? At Central Alabama Training Solutions, we realize it’s not always practical or cost-effective to train internal personnel to provide rescue services, which is why CATS has become the go-to in rescue standby services in Alabama. Equipped with all the necessary equipment and experts in OSHA standards we provide a team of specially trained individuals for on-site emergency response and confined space rescue services to satisfy 1910.146 confined space requirements.
Depending on the nature of our job, our our services include personnel and necessary equipment. Standard teams are two trained professionals with MSA Altair air monitors, plus the necessary equipment to handle a would-be rescue. CATS keeps a surplus of air and rope equipment to deploy several teams to multiple areas. Most of our employees are professional or retired firefighters, many with medical training; upon request we also can provide medical supplies on the scene. References from our client base are available upon request.
Many of our clients are in rural areas with rescue services more than 25 minutes away, so it is important to be prepared for your unique emergency and start medical treatment immediately, if necessary. As such, CATS can provide medical standby services, along with supplies, upon request. For protected entries, we can provide cascade systems with supplied air and a third professional to monitor air consumption. We can provide hole watches and fireguards when needed. If you have any questions about rates and additional standby services, please feel free to reach out to Keith Sharp at 205-242-1996 or by email at ksharp@catscorp.com.
Typically designed around temporary or long-term support, we tailor our rescue standby services and tenure to your company’s individual needs.
Whether you need day-by-day or week-long support, Central Alabama Training Solutions offers temporary rescue standby services for short-term needs. Want to train and establish your own internal rescue team? CATS can do that as well during this temporary support window.
Why burden yourself with ongoing training and company expense to house your own internal rescue team when you can hire Central Alabama Training Solutions? CATS can be a long-term extension of your team thanks to our annual commitment program.
